Synthpop Fanatic is a blog devoted to dark dance music: synthpop, futurepop, darkwave, electro. Songs you hear on a dark, smoky dancefloor. Songs filled with melancholy and despair. Songs with Depeche Mode firmly encoded in their DNA.
I cover album releases, music news, videos, and the occasional in-depth review. I try to post a few times each week, more on Fridays. I love lists. On the last day of every month, I list my 10 favorite tracks released that month.
This site started as a Facebook page that started as a Spotify playlist. I was just looking for a way to keep up with new music being released, and here we are.
About the Author
My name is Chris Brandon (he/him), and I live in Washington DC.
I’ve been listening to dark electronic music since the late ’80s when I was a sophomore in high school. Some upperclassmen introduced me to Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and The Cure. I was hooked. In college, I DJ’ed the industrial music show at my college radio station, and I got really into Front 242, Skinny Puppy, and Nitzer Ebb.
My tastes mellowed as I got older and I discovered futurepop, especially the music of VNV Nation. My current favorite artists are too numerous to count and change almost daily. But they include Kite, Legend, TR/ST, and any project that involves Frank Spinath.
If there’s something you think I should hear, feel free to send me a message.
