Dark electro band Matte Black emerges with debut single, “Pure”

Matte Black’s debut album will be out in the fall.

Matte Black

Matte Black is a promising new act from San Diego, California. Earlier this week, they released their debut single, a propulsive song called “Pure” that contains strong, introspective vocals. There’s a soothing yet frenetic dichotomy to this song that I really enjoy.

You can find “Pure” on Bandcamp and Spotify.

Matte Black will release their debut album, I’m Waving, Not Drowning, in the fall. Here’s what they had to say about the album:

The record was mostly written during the global-wide shutdown due to Covid-19, and has spawned an introverted yet relatable sound. An album created in isolation touching on topics such as pain, panic, and suffering, yet conceiving a light at the end of the tunnel.

Matte Black is a trio comprised of Alex Gonzales, Bidi Cobra, and Daniel Corrales. Prior to forming the band, they worked as “supporting musicians” for other acts, including Julien-k , The New Division, and Moving Units.

They’ve been running a crowdfunding campaign to cover the costs of releasing their album. You can support them here.
