The next full-length from beloved German act Rotersand is on the way. It’s called Don’t Become the Thing You Hated, and it arrives August 8, 2025.
Rotersand describe the new album as a cultural critique, with lyrics that explore themes of disillusionment, anger, and the fragile line between resistance and complicity. Here’s what the release notes say about the album:
In a world increasingly defined by division, alienation, and existential anxiety, the band casts a sharp eye on the psychological toll of our times—and issues a warning. The message is clear: in fighting what we oppose, we risk becoming it ourselves.
They describe the album’s sound as “dark yet resolutely hopeful,” exploring “a dynamic spectrum of styles—from propulsive electro with surgically crisp beats and brooding industrial textures to anthemic, almost dreamlike interludes.”
Don’t Become the Thing You Hated will be Rotersand’s seventh studio album and their first since How Do You Feel Today? landed in early 2020, just as the world was shutting down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. That record, which included fan favorites like “Whatever” and “Hot Ashes,” never got its proper moment in the clubs.
The band has stayed busy in the years since, releasing singles like “16 Devils,” “Higher Ground,” and “Forgotten Daydreams.” Some of those tracks appear on the new album. Additionally, Rascal—the unmistakable voice of Rotersand—teamed up with Axel Ermes of Girls Under Glass for a new side project called Love & Revenge.
