Nation of Language – “This Fractured Mind”

Nation of Language’s second album will be out in November.

Nation of Language

Wow, this might be the best song Nation of Language has released yet. The “working-class synthpop” trio from Brooklyn has a new song out today called “This Fractured Mind” that is all twinkling synths and nervous jitters.

“This Fractured Mind” is the third single from Nation of Language’s upcoming sophomore album, A Way Forward, which is due out on November 5. They’ve previously released the album’s first two singles, “Wounds of Love” and “Across that Fine Line.”

The music video for “This Fractured Mind” features the band riding the subway, hanging out on the beach, eating lunch at White Castle, and wandering around New York. It’s the most intimate look we’ve been given of band members Ian Devaney, Aidan Noell, and Michael Sue-Poi. It also appears that Ian is starting to gain confidence as a frontman—he even shows off some wicked dance moves in the streets.

Nation of Language released their debut album, Introduction, Presence, in 2020 to much acclaim. I placed it at number seven on my list of the 25 best synthpop albums of 2020. Based on their latest singles, the follow-up will be just as good.

You can find “This Fractured Mind” on Bandcamp and Spotify.
