Remix albums used to be a staple of the dark music genre (remember Remix Wars?), but they gave way to singles and EPs that come stacked with remixes. Lately, I’m seeing a lot more promotions for remix albums that signals perhaps they’re coming back in vogue.
Here are three remix albums you should check out.
Hante. – Fierce (Remixes and More)
It’s been more than a year since French synth maestro Hante. released her excellent album, Fierce. Last week, Hante. released a remix album that features two new songs, including the excellent track “In Raptures,” and remixes from artists as diverse as Kontravoid and Fee Lion, as well as her labelmate Fragrance.
Kontravoid – Too Deep Remixes
Electronic musician Kontravoid makes EBM-inflected music that feels right at home on the dancefloor and in your headphones. This collection of remixes is geared more for DJs and delivers pounding dancefloor stompers that should be taking Berghain by storm right now (if it was open).
She Past Away – X
PRE-ORDER: Bandcamp
Turkish darkwave act She Past Away has become so unexpectedly popular that their forthcoming remix album, X, is one of the most anticipated albums of the year. The jaw-dropping lineup of remix artists includes Boy Harsher, Clan of Xymox, and even Front 242. The album is due May 22. They’ve already released a stellar Soft Moon remix of “Ritüel” that indicates this collection is going to be fire.
