Voicecoil gets nostalgic on new album, Singularity

Can you name the songs referenced in track two, “Nostalgia Trap”?

Voicecoil

The latest album from Voicecoil is out today. It’s called Singularity. You can find it at Bandcamp.

Voicecoil is an excellent futurepop band from Denver, Colorado. Singularity is their third album. It features 14 original tracks and two remixes from The Rain Within and Faces Under the Mirror.

Can you name these classic songs?

Pay close attention to track two, “Nostalgia Trap.” The song paints a sentimental look at songs from years ago and includes lyrics from several classics. It’s actually a lot of fun trying to decipher which songs the lyrics reference.

“Did you carry a sword?” and “Did you make ritual noise?” are unmistakable references to VNV Nation and Covenant, respectively. Here are the complete lyrics.

Tell me did the sky go out?
Tell me did love tear us apart?
Tell me did the ships return?
Tell me did the bomb explode?

Watch the world go by
Watch it burn away
Dream of better times
Dream of yesterday

Tell me did the bullet find you?
Tell me did you carry a sword?
Tell me did you wait for the signs?
Tell me did you make ritual noise?

Watch the world go by
Watch it burn away
Dream of better times
Dream of yesterday
