Priest - Personal Jesus

The enigmatic Swedish synthpop band Priest has released a cover of the Depeche Mode classic, “Personal Jesus.” Their version initially appeared on a Cleopatra Records compilation late last year, but the single gets an official release today.

“Personal Jesus” comes from DM’s 1990 album Violator and is one of the band’s best known songs. It’s been covered numerous times, most notably by Johnny Cash.

Priest performed “Personal Jesus” live during their brief tour of the US in 2022 and cited Depeche Mode as one of their favorite bands. You can find several recordings of it on Youtube.

Last summer Priest released their third studio album, Body Machine, which showcased another evolution for the band and found them incorporating classic industrial and EBM sounds. Body Machine includes the singles “A Signal in the Noise” and “Blacklisted.”

You can find Priest’s cover of “Personal Jesus” on Spotify and other digital platforms.
