Priest releases new single “Thieves”

Swedish synthpop band Priest has a new single out today called “Thieves.” You can find it on Spotify.

“Thieves” is the fourth and final single from Priest’s 2020 album, Cyberhead, which is coming Friday. Previous singles include “Dead Ringer,” “Beacon of Light,” and “Time Traveler.”

Some members of the Priest fandom have been calling this one the best track on the album, so I’ve been looking forward to hearing it.

Priest has a mysterious and confusing history. They returned earlier this year with a new look and a new lead singer after previous singer Tom Åsberg (who is also known as Ginger Khan) left the band last year. He’s now working with the synthpop band Seadrake. They’re still calling the lead singer Mercury, and many fans were confused by who actually performs vocals now. I think the cat is officially out of the bag by this point.

The primary creative force behind Priest, Linton Rubino, now performs Mercury’s vocals. Rubino (as well as his father) are both former members of the rock band Ghost.

Priest “Thieves” lyrics

They approach you corrupted and disguised
With a smiling face
They will enter your shelter mesmerized
By the fortune’s trace
I let them into my sanctuary
Where they made their wealth
Trusted every word they said to me
Venom snakes in stealth

They can steal what they see
But they can’t steal the fire in me
They can steal what they see
But they can’t steal the fire

They were draining the power from my heart
The world fade to grey
But I still had the sparkle to re-start
My vision’s back to stay

They can steal what they see
But they can’t steal the fire in me
They can steal what they see
But they can’t steal the fire
