Swedish synthpop duo Vidéo L’Eclipse released a new song on Friday called “Almost There” that is among the best tracks I’ve heard this year.
“Almost There” opens with soothing synth waves that are quickly accompanied by the somber, rich voice that made me first fall in love with this band. The vocals deliver a gorgeous melody across the remainder of the song, as subtle synth elements gradually propel it to its crescendo. It’s sublime.
The single version is accompanied by three wildly different remixes from other Swedish artists: Svensk Hushållssynth, Kontrollenhet, and PaleSkinnySwede. I particularly like PaleSkinnySwede’s “Beast Control Remix,” which jacks up the tempo for the dance floor.
“Almost There” is the follow-up to last year’s “Signals,” which I included on my list of the best songs of the year. Both tracks will appear on Video L’Eclipse’s sophomore album, Begin-Repress-Depart, which will be out in the fall.
Video L’Eclipse is a duo from Vallentuna, Sweden, comprised of Jonas Peterson and Robert Tingelöf. They formed in 2019 and released their debut album, Predicts, in 2021.
