Dark electronic musician ESA (Electronic Substance Abuse) has a new song and video out today called “I Detach.” The video contains themes that are somewhat reminiscent of Silence of the Lambs and features a creepy caretaker experimenting with mannequins. This is the thumping electro-industrial disturbia you were looking for.
ESA’s Jamie Blacker plays the caretaker in the video, in addition to writing, producing, directing, and editing it.
“I Detach” is ESA’s first new music in 2021. Last year, he released an EP called Eat Their Young/The Scorn as well as ESA’s 10th album, Burial 10. There’s no word yet if “I Detach” will appear on a forthcoming album.
Blacker formed ESA in 2002, following a career writing and recording music for UK black and death metal bands. With ESA, he subtly mines influences from industrial, techno, and rhythmic noise to form a compelling dark electro sound. He’s also a member of the industrial band iVardensphere.
The “I Detach” single includes remixes by Moris Blak, Mechanical Vein, and other artists. You can find it on Bandcamp, Spotify, and other music services.
