Tobias Bernstrup and Erica Li Lundqvist join forces in O+HER

Two incredible forces in dark music, solo artist Tobias Bernstrup and ABU NEIN singer Erica Li Lundqvist, have joined forces to create a captivating new darkwave project called O+HER (pronounced “other”). They’ll be releasing a series of digital singles this year, followed by a vinyl release.

O+HER’s first single is “Brave Bodies Burn,” which was previously released last September as an instrumental. This mesmerizing track now features vocals from Tobias and Erica Li. It is accompanied by a cover of the 1985 song “Virus Meadow,” originally recorded by English post-punk band And Also the Trees.

Swedish artist Bengt Rahm has filmed a video for “Brave Bodies Burn,” which features Tobias and Erica Li performing behind a metal fence. They’re dressed in black and white, personifying darkness and the light, and they eventually collide into one cohesive vision and sound. There’s also an awesome looking bass player bringing a Sisters of Mercy vibe to the whole thing. I love it.

Here’s how O+HER describes their sound:

O+HER is a pact which links two subjects together in one action, one body, one vision. O+HER describe their sound as atmospheric, beat and sequencer -driven with roots in late 80s darkwave set in a modern context. Bernstrup who has been working as a solo artist for two decades is known for his dark Italo-oriented music and androgynous performances and Erica Li for her dark haunting voice and lyrics.

Tobias is keeping busy. The O+HER project quickly follows his most recent album, Petrichor, which I included on my list of the best albums of 2021.

You can find “Brave Bodies Burn” on Bandcamp and Spotify.
