I haven’t written anything about an artist I love called The Irrepressibles. On Tuesday, they released a new video for their song “Dominance” that is filled with leather masks, bare torsos, and erotic art. It’s NSFW and age-restricted on Youtube.
“Dominance” is a slow-burning electro track featuring pulsating synths and horns. There’s not much to the lyrics other than a softly purred hook: “I’ve got some kinky shit I’d like to try with you.” It would sound right at home playing in a dark, S&M scene.
The Irrepressibles released “Dominance” a few years ago, but it’s also included on their latest album, Superheroes. The Quietus called the album “a beautiful open book of his journey uniting with his mental health, masculinity, and homosexuality.”
Superheroes includes a fantastic anthem called “Let Go (Everybody Move Your Body Listen to Your Heart)” that melds ambient soundscapes with dance-pop hooks. Outside of the typical darkwave and synthpop stuff I generally listen to, it is one of my favorite songs of the year. Don’t miss the incredible music video.
The Irrepressibles is British musician Jamie Irrepressible who is known for strong gay imagery in his songs and videos. He also has an incredibly soothing voice that you may recognize from numerous collaborations with Royksopp, including the songs “Something in My Heart” and “You Know I Have to Go.”
