Drab Majesty releases cover of Blind Melon’s song “No Rain”

The Bee Girl would probably like dancing to Drab Majesty.

Drab Majesty

Los Angeles darkwave aliens Drab Majesty have released a cover of “No Rain,” the 1992 alt-rock hit from Blind Melon. They’ve given it an electro, otherworldly feel. It’s only available on Bandcamp.

Deb Demure dug the track out of the Drab Majesty archives. It’s a bedroom recording from 2013, when Drab Majesty was still a solo act and just getting started making music. It sounds pretty raw.

Drab Majesty released the debut album, Careless, in 2015. Mona D joined the project in 2016, and they’ve released two more albums. Last year’s Modern Mirror was one of my favorite synthpop albums of 2019.

Nineties cover songs are hot right now. Apoptygma Berzerk recently released an excellent cover of Smashing Pumpkins’ “Disarm.”

I haven’t listened to “No Rain” in years. Remember the bee girl?
